Obituary

Janet I. Bennett, 64, of New Boston, passed away Monday, May 4, 2020, at home.

A Celebration of Life is being planned for a later date. Nichols Bewley Funeral and Cremation Services is caring for Janet’s family and arrangements.

Condolences may be left for Janet’s family on her Memorial Tribute page at www.NicholsBewley.com.

She was born September 13, 1955, in Muscatine, Iowa, the daughter of Paul Edward and Veneta Ilene Asay DeKeyrel. She married Jeffrey R. Bennett on January 3, 1976, in Andalusia, Illinois.

Janet was a graduate of the Franciscan Nursing School and was a retired Registered Nurse.

She spent her career caring for others – but her biggest pride and joy was time spent caring for her family. She so enjoyed hearing her grandchildren telling her ‘goodnight’.

Many years were spent traveling the USA in the semi with her husband – imagining what shapes the clouds looked like. Janet loved her hat and angel collections. You could often see her driving her ‘Red Pony’ convertible. In her later years, she enjoyed boating and good movies.

She absolutely had a heart of gold!

Those left to honor and cherish her memory include her husband of 44 years, Jeff; daughters, Emily (Aaron) Clayton of Aledo and Katie (Jason) Padavich of Long Grove, IA; grandchildren, Lillian and Aaden Clayton, and Cole and Kayla Padavich; her mother, Veneta DeKeyrel; brothers, Harvey (Janet) DeKeyrel of Seaton, Rene (Donna) DeKeyrel, Roger (Priscilla) DeKeyrel, and Bruce (Lori) DeKeyrel, all of Illinois City; sisters, Melanie (Carl) Geertz of New Boston, Hope Curry of Muscatine, and Amy (Tim) Robinson of Illinois City; fifteen nieces and nephews and fifteen great nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her father, Paul DeKeyrel.

I am so sorry to learn of Janet's passing. She was my best friend in high school. We had so many good times and shared countless laughs. After graduation, we sadly drifted apart. That is something I have regretted and now always will. My sympathy to Jeff and the entire family.
