Earl L. Newton, 93, of Aledo, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, on January 9, 2024, at Celebrate Senior Living in Moline, IL.
Earl was born on Saturday, August 23, 1930, in Chillicothe, MO, the son of Bert and Edith (Brown) Newton. He married Ida Lou Williams on February 19, 1954.
Earl's early years in Chillicothe laid a strong foundation for a life of service and hard work. His career as a welder spanned three decades with John Deere & Co at the Plow and Planter factory in Moline, IL. He retired in 1980, leaving behind a legacy of craftsmanship and a strong bond with his colleagues, especially within the UAW Local No. 434, where he was a proud member.
A decorated veteran, Earl served his country with honor in the United States Army during the Korean War. While serving in Korea, he was shot in both lower right and left legs on April 25, 1953. His bravery in the face of adversity earned him the Korean Service Medal with three Bronze Service Stars for his injuries, as well as the United Nations Service Medal, and the Combat Infantry Badge. The stories of his service remain a testament to his courage and patriotism.
Earl's life was enriched by his family, including several nieces and nephews; great nieces and nephews; and the companionship of close friends; and special neighbors, Dennis and Martha Bedford.
Earl was preceded in death by his parents, his beloved wife Ida, two sisters, and three brothers.
Graveside services, with military honors, will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday, January 20, at Greenview Memorial Gardens in East Moline, IL.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to Project Now RIM Program.
