Larry Lee Winkel, of Coralville, Iowa, passed away on Saturday, February 10, 2024 at Premier Estates in Muscatine. Iowa, after a lengthy battle of Parkinson's disease.
A Celebration of Life will be announced at a later date.
Larry Winkel was born June 25,1948, in George Iowa, to George and Mary Winkel and grew up in Newell, Iowa.
He graduated from Newell Providence High School. Larry joined the Air Force Reserves and was a graduate of The University of Iowa.
He married Kelley Petersen. They had one son, Lance Winkel. They later divorced.
Larry was owner and president of Water Conditioning Systems (Kinetico) in Iowa City. Larry operated the business from 1975 through June of 2021.
Larry enjoyed living several years in Huntington Beach, California, and loved hosting family when they would come for visits.
Family gatherings, with all his extended family, were very important to him be it Christmas, summer reunions or numerous weddings, etc. Larry loved life and always had a joke he had to tell. He loved walking and running in the parks, boating, and his favorite cat Soda. He will be greatly missed.
Left to cherish his memories are his son Lance Winkel of St. Joseph, MO. Brothers Lawrence (Alice) Winkel of Muscatine, IA, Eldon (Mary) Winkel of Shell Rock, IA. Sister Georgia (Charlie) Gerken of George, IA and sister-in-law Marilyn Winkel of Fort Dodge, IA, as well as numerous nieces and nephews and a special friend, Ellen Smiley of Costa Mesa, CA. Larry was preceded in death by his parents George and Mary, brother Greg Winkel, sister-in-law Bette Winkel, brother-in-law Donald Kuester, and nephew Troy Plowman.
