Lyle Spivey, 80, of Aledo passed away Wednesday, November 28, 2012 at Aledo Rehabilitation & Health Care Center. Per his wishes, private graveside services are 10 a.m. Saturday, December 1, 2012 at Farlow Grove Cemetery in Matherville. Military honors will be conducted by the Mercer County VFW Post 1571. Memorials may be given to the Lyle Spivey memorial fund. A gathering will be held for family and friends at 11:30 a.m. at the Grace Evangelical Free Church, 606 SE Third Street, Aledo.
Mr. Spivey was born July 7, 1932 in Clinton, Iowa, the son of Thomas H. and Mildred E. Fetters Spivey. He married Vaunda Curtis in Reynolds on September 5, 1952.
He was an Army veteran serving in the Korean War. Lyle was a farmer and retired from Maytag in 1994.
He enjoyed sports with his grandsons. He was a Illini, Brave’s and Steeler’s fan. He also enjoyed trips to Texas with his family.
Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Vaunda; children, Starla (Mike) Martens, Lynn Center, Kip Spivey, Macomb; grandchildren, Heath (Annie) Fullerton, Mt. Sterling, IL, Jintana (Eric) Jones, North Carolina, Aaron (Rachel) Spivey, Ft. Worth, TX, Dirk (Stacy) Fullerton, Medford, OR, Jacqueline (Brandon) Chenoweth, Ft. Worth, TX, Logan Martens, Lynn Center, IL; 8 great-grandchildren; sister, Bonnie (Rodney) Calderone, Sherrard; brothers, Roger Spivey, Viola and Jerry (Cheryl) Spivey, Sherrard.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Roger Lyle and brother, Curtis Spivey.
