Barbara Shaffer

Barbara Jean Shaffer, 81 New Boston, Illinois, died May 23, 2016, at Trinity Rock Island.

No public services are planned. Bewley Funeral Home and Cremation Services , Aledo, is caring for Barb’s family and arrangements.

Our mother, sister, grandmother, great grandmother and dear friend went home to be with Jesus. Barb was born in Rock Island, Ill. on August 18, 1934, to Isabella and Leroy McManus. She was married to Leland Shaffer of Abington, IL. on Feb. 11, 1956. Barb and Leland were blessed with two children Cheryl and Michael, and a stepson David Shaffer of Abington, Ill. After the children grew up in Mercer County Barb and Leland retired to Ocala, Florida where they resided for 25 years until Leland’s death in 2004. Barbara moved back to New Boston and resided with her fiance, Bill Robinson. Barb and Bill traveled the country each winter seeing the sights and visiting the children and grandchildren in Florida. The Florida visits with all of us were blessed.

Survivors include her daughter, Cheryl Mathews and husband Wayne of Eustis, Florida. Barb had four grandchildren Corrina, Ashley, Aaron, and Wade, three great grandchildren Alyssa, Avery, and Parker. Her son, Michael and wife Lisa, of Little York, Ill. Brother Mike McManus and wife Betty of New Boston. Sister Patricia Armstrong and husband Leonard of Aledo.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Leland, brother Leroy (Sonny) McManus, sister in-law Shirley McManus and nephew Patrick McManus of Reynolds.
