Charles Eugene Simmons, 92, of Andalusia, died May 10, 2010 at Mercer County Nursing Home. Services are 1 pm Friday, May 14, at Bewley Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 103 SW Third Street, Aledo. Visitation will be 11am until the time of the service at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Andalusia Cemetery, Andalusia, IL. Memorials may be made to the Charles Eugene Simmons memorial fund. Mr. Simmons was born April 6, 1918 in Andalusia, the son of Charles Silas and Emma Nellie Bacon Simmons. He married Estefania Joyce Rodriguez in 1941 in Davenport, IA. He later married Yvonne Mary Ziegler in 1965 in Andalusia. Charles was employed by the W. P. A. 1938 - 1941. He was a member of Local Carpentry and Jointer Union #166. He retired in 1970. He owned and operated Andalusia Truck and Tractor until 2000. He was a member of the Andalusia Volunteer Fire Department for over 40 years. He also did track maintenance for the Mississippi Valley Fairgrounds. Charles enjoyed stock car racing. He was an avid fisherman and hunter. He loved camping. Survivors (and spouses) include his children, Tom and Laverne Simmons, Emma Simmons-Cousins, both of Davenport, IA, Ed Simmons, Andalusia, Maria Kagee and fiance Dale Franks of Aledo, Amanda and Brian Englebert, Sturgeon Bay, WI; grandchildren Cynthia, Debra, Norberta, Simone, Celeste, Derrick, Joshua, Nickolas, Tyler Edward, Kristin, Lauren, and Janelle, and 12 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Norbert Gene Simmons; 3 sisters and 5 brothers.
