Darwin L. Terkleson, 79, of Aledo, left us peacefully in his sleep on Friday, December 19, 2025, at his home surrounded by his family.

He was born on March 2, 1946, in South Bend, Indiana, the son of Marvin and Jaqueline Hartman Terkleson, Darwin spent his life devoted to his family and his work, proudly serving as a Police officer, Detective and Lieutenant with the State of Illinois Department of Corrections in East Moline.

Darwin's life journey took him from South Bend, Indiana to Aledo, Illinois, where he and Debbie created a life filled with love, laughter, and cherished memories. He is survived by two sons, Brad and Brian Terkleson, Niece Jennifer Nipper and her children; Step-children, David (Esther) Bysinger and Sasi (Barton) Rodriguez, all of Aledo and Taiowa (Wendy) Butenschoen and Jenine Butenschoen. grandchildren, Poe Reicho, Eleanor, Regan J. and Lily Terkleson; step-grandchildren, Cindy Orr, Cesselyn Bysinger, Danielle Bysinger, David (Jessie) Bysinger, Derrick Bysinger, Devon Bysinger, B.J. and Nathaniel Rodriguez; and step-great grandchildren, Livie, Harper, Jensen, Aaliyah, Cambria and Tayvia Bysinger. Kaden Smet, Avery Olson, Jayden and Dylan, Shante, Shevan and Shandon Butenschoen.

Darwin was preceded in death by his parents, his daughter and his wife, Deborah Terkleson.

There were few things Darwin enjoyed more than hunting, fishing and gambling. His sense of humor, poetry with curse words and zest for life will forever be etched in the hearts of those who loved him. He always said how grateful he was that he had found Debbie again, because she brought with her a whole family who loved him and was there for him all the way to the end. He will be missed, but he is finally where he has longed to be for years now, reunited with Debbie.

Cremation rites will be accorded. No public services are planned at this time.
