Obituary

Donald Murphy went home to be with his Lord, peacefully entering his eternal life on Dec 9.2025.

As per Don's wishes, cremation rites have been accorded.

Don was born in Washington, Iowa on May 10, 1937. He grew up in Washington and graduated from High school in 1955. He was the oldest of four children. Don went on to enter the Air Force soon after High School.

Don was a man of many talents. He was employed as a parts manager for many years at many different car dealerships. Although he liked the opportunity to use his skills at different places, he retired from the Rock Island Arsenal.

Don married Patricia Mckinley in 1988, she proceeded him in death in 2009.

Don's greatest gift and joy was to proclaim his faith as a Christian to anyone that would listen. He had many difficulties and disappointments in his life, but he never complained about any of them. He never lost track of the fact that he had led a very blessed and wonderful life and God was in control.

Don's extended family was very important to him. He loved spending time with each one of them.

He resided at Brookstone in Aledo for a few years, where from the first day he moved in, he felt like he had died and gone to Heaven. His most precious pastime there, was to put puzzles together and turn them into wall hangings, of which he loved to give to his family and friends. When it was time for him to move to Mercer Manor he adjusted accordingly.

He loved his care givers whether he was living at Brookstone or Mercer Manor and always made it a point to remember everyone's name.

Those left to honor his memory are Jim and Karen Murphy, Muscatine, Earl Murphy, Prophetstown and many nieces and nephews.

He was proceeded in death by his wife Patricia, his parents Perry and Elsie Murphy, sister and brother-in-law, Janet and Joe Harroun, and sister-in-law Connie Murphy.

The family would like to thank the village of people that became Don's family at Brookstone and Mercer Manor including the whole Compassus Hospice Crew especially Amanda and Ari...and anyone who would stop and listen to all of Don's colorful life stories.

Nichols Bewley Funeral Home and Cremation Services is caring for Don's family and arrangements.
