Donna L. Long, a cherished mother, grandmother, friend and long-time resident of Aledo, Illinois, passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 4, 2024, at the age of 97. She was born on Wednesday, June 9, 1926, in Joy, Illinois, the daughter of Oscar and Della Mc Neal Johnson.

Donna spent her life in Mercer County, where she would build a life filled with love, family, and service. She married the love of her life, Albert Earl Long, and together they embarked on a journey of companionship and entrepreneur-ship, operating Long Electric. Donna's dedication and skill as a secretary were instrumental in the success of their business. After her time at Long Electric, she continued to serve her community as a clerk at the Mercer County Carnegie Library, a role she cherished deeply.

A woman of faith, Donna was a devoted member of Sunbeam Presbyterian Church. Her commitment to her church and her community was unwavering, and she lived her faith through acts of kindness and compassion. Donna's spirit of service extended beyond her professional and religious life; she was a beacon of hope for stray animals, providing care and a loving touch to those in need.

Donna's passion for life was evident in her hobbies. She was an avid gardener, finding joy in the beauty and tranquility of her garden. Her love for reading kept her mind sharp and her heart open to new ideas and worlds. Donna also found pleasure in the simple things, like settling down to watch episodes of Columbo and Murder She Wrote, which brought her great enjoyment and relaxation.

Donna's family was the cornerstone of her life. She is survived by her loving daughter, Sharon (Brad) Vipond of Aledo; her adoring grandchildren, Geff (Andrea) Long, Jenifer (Jim) McIntyre, Kristen (Shane) Hansen, all of Aledo, and Adam (Margaret Lawrence) Vipond of Aledo; and her cherished eight great-grandchildren, who brought her immeasurable joy and pride.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Albert, on September 4, 1980; her son, Larry and infant son Rodger; her granddaughter Becky Long and her significant other John Frye; and her siblings, Dick, John, Everett, Fione, Bess, and Twila. The memories and love shared with these family members remain a testament to the deep bonds and affection that defined Donna's life.

Donna L. Long's journey on this earth was marked by her unwavering love for her family, her steadfast faith, and her enduring kindness. As we bid farewell to this remarkable woman, we celebrate the legacy she leaves behind—a legacy of gentle strength, boundless compassion, and a life lived with purpose and grace. Her memory will continue to inspire and guide us, and she will be deeply missed by all who were fortunate enough to have known her.

Rest in peace, dear Donna. Your light will shine on in the hearts of those you've touched forever.
