Doris I. Dewey, 70, of Sherrard, IL, passed away Monday, December 22, 2025, peacefully at home.
She was born August 1, 1955, in Geneseo, IL, the daughter of Eugene and Virginia Jean Brittenham Johnson. She married Dale Anthony in 1973. They were later divorced. She married Marc Dewey on August 12, 1978, at Beulah Presbyterian Church in Orion.
Doris was a "jack of many trades" a software engineer with Steamboat Casino, an award winning author, public speaker, stand up comedian, and teacher. She loved crafting, bird watching, and watching basketball with her family. Go Indiana Fever & Get em' Hawks!
How humbling it is to realize that life comes down to moments like this. Where those who knew you best sit together and try to put into words the meaning of a life well lived. Dori may not have had carried any grand titles or trophies (though she had a few of those as well), but her true legacy is found in the everyday things. She was stubborn, fierce, faithful, and stronger than she ever realized. She loved deeply and without condition, and she taught us all what it meant to show up-for family, for friends, and for God. Her faith was not just something she spoke about, it was something she lived every single day. It guided her choices, shaped her kindness, and grounded her through both joy and hardship. Dori had a way of making people feel seen and valued. Whether through her words, her laughter, or her quiet acts of kindness, she left an imprint on everyone she met. She was our rock, our encourager, and our biggest cheerleader. Often believing in others, more than they believed in themselves.
Her presence will be deeply missed, but her love, faith, and example will continue to live on in all who were blessed to know her.
Those left to cherish her memory include her husband, Marc of which she was married for 47 loving years; son, Chad (Susan) Dewey of Parrish, FL; daughters, Amy (Ryan) Kretler of Hanover, PA, Alicia (Tim) Robison of Milan, IL, Amanda (Fred) Johns of Peoria, IL, and Elizabeth (Kyle) Schmuck of Geneseo, IL; twelve grandchildren, Caden Dewey, Carter Dewey, Drew Vogel, Samantha Norman, Dakota Knepper, Zachary Knepper, Emma Jamison, Mabel Johns, Gunner Johns, Jedidiah Johns, Isabelle Schmuck, Atlas Schmuck, and one lovingly expected; one brother, Mike Johnson of Sherrard, IL; and one sister, Virgie Johnson of Louiseville, KY; and countless friends..
She was preceded in death by her parents; infant son, Craig Allen Anthony, and sister, Nancy Moughan.
Funeral services will be 11:00 AM Tuesday, December 30, at the First Baptist Church in Aledo. Burial will follow at the Sherrard Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM Tuesday, at the church.
