Dorothy M. Hunter, 94, of Muscatine, formerly of rural West Liberty, passed away while in hospice care, Saturday, December 5, 2009, at Carrington Place in Muscatine. Dorothy Colberg was born May 2, 1915, in Mercer County, Illinois, the daughter of Max Otto and Nellie Mildred Swisher Colberg. She married William Jennings Bryan Hunter on October 10, 1930, in Muscatine. He preceded her in death in April 1969. She was employed by the Muscatine Community School District, working at McKinley Elementary School for 16 years in the custodial department. Throughout her lifetime, Dorothy enjoyed crocheting, pretty punch, gardening, canning, dancing, celebrating birthdays and Halloween, reminiscing memories from 1114 Nebraska Street, and eating at the Catfish Place. Survivors include her son, Melvin L. Hunter, daughters, Arlene M. (Richard) Ricklefs and Donna L. Van Acker; daughter-in-law, Shirley J. Hunter; thirteen grandchildren, Pamela Hunter, Judy Vonnahme, Catherine Kent, JoAnne McCleary, Thomas Hunter, Randy Hunter, Tammy Morehead, Wendy Osborn, Kevin Hunter, Susan Sutera, William Ricklefs, Russ Van Acker, and Candy Cottrell Schultz, twenty-four great grandchildren and ten great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, son Marvin in 1987, daughter-in-law Bonnie Proctor Hunter in 2001, daughter Verna Cottrell in 2005, grandson Duane Cottrell in 2005, son-in-law Merlin Van Acker in 2008, her sister Marie Thornton, and brothers Paul and Lyle Colberg. She was the last remaining family member of the ten Curtis and Mary Mills Hunter children and spouses. © 2009 ALL RIGHTS RESERVED.
