James L. Lissy, 77, of Muscatine, passed away Tuesday, December 31, 2013, at the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Iowa City.


Graveside services will be 1:00 p.m. Friday, January 10, at Melpine Cemetery. Military rites will be conducted by the VFW Post No. 1565 and American Legion Post No. 27 Combined Squad. Nichols Life Tribute Funeral and Memorial Services - Muscatine Funeral Home is caring for the family and arrangements.

He was born November 6, 1936, in Davenport, the son of Erich Carl and Wilma Dorothy Brauer Lissy. He married Patricia Ann Hull of Davenport in 1959. He later married Carol Joan Neipert on November 5, 1971, in Rock Island. He enjoyed fishing and hunting in his younger days, Jim had a deep love for his family.


He had worked in auto parts and sales for Seig Co. Jim was a top sales man for the company and won many national awards for Seig. Everyone on Jim’s sales route was a friend. He enjoyed his work with Seig so much he would often say, “son, the personal relationships I have with people on my route are just as important as the quality parts I sell them”. He was a United States Army veteran and held many positions with VFW Post No. 1565, including Post Commander from 1971 to 1973. Jim enjoyed putting out flags for the VFW at the cemeteries each year and was instrumental in starting the Sons of the VFW chapter in Muscatine, to mentor young men. Jim had a sweet tooth and enjoyed his pop and candy.


Those left to honor his memory include his wife, Carol; sons, Tim Scott Lissy, Todd (Kathy) Lissy and Brian Jones all of Muscatine and Eric Lissy of Davenport; daughters, Amy (Dan) Reed of St. Charles and Tracy Wagner, Stephanie Brown and Lori (Mark) Seefeldt all of Muscatine; twenty-two grandchildren and fourteen great grandchildren.


He was preceded in death by his parents and one great grandchild.
