Judith Ann (Rhodenbaugh) Johnson, 79, of Moline, formerly of Sherrard, died Saturday, January 5, 2019, at Hope Creek Care Center, East Moline.
Celebration of Life will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, February 9, 2019, at Swedona Lutheran Church. Visitation will precede the service beginning at 9:00 a.m. As Judy wished, cremation rites were accorded by Bewley Funeral and Cremation Services, Aledo. Memorials to Swedona Lutheran Church.
Judy was born June 1, 1939, in Rock Island, Ill., daughter of Eugene and Gwendolyn Weeks Rhodenbaugh. She graduated from Alwood High School in 1957, and attended Illinois State University. She married Dean A. Johnson on Dec. 6, 1958, at Salem Lutheran Church in Moline.
Judy worked for a few years at her parents’ business The Dairy Bar in Sherrard, then for many years at the Rock Island Arsenal. In retirement, she was a volunteer for The International Order of The King's Daughters & Sons and worked briefly at the welcome desk at Friendship Manor in Rock Island. Judy and Dean were members of Swedona Lutheran Church and the Swedish Viking Club. Together they enjoyed 11 winters at Venture Out in Mesa, Ariz., where Judy was a joyful member of the Red Hat Society of Mesa.
Judy enjoyed following her sons’ and grandchildren’s athletic, musical, and artistic endeavors, and attending Dean’s performances with the Bend of the River Chorus in Rock Island and the Leisure World Barber Shop Chorus in Mesa.
She is survived by two sons, Brad (Jennie) Johnson, Coyne Center, and Kirk (Kerry) Johnson, Decorah, Iowa; grandchildren, Ashley Johnson of Lake Elmo, Minn., Alexandra (Jason) Engelken, of Decorah, Annalise Johnson of Rochester, Minn., and Alyus and Andy Johnson of Coyne Center; sisters, Nina Davis of Scottsdale, Ariz., and Carita Eckert of Joy, Ill., and Judy’s special friend, Richard Kimble of Clinton, Iowa. Judy’s first great grandchild is expected in July 2019.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Dean, in 2014, her parents, and her sister, Jo Nell Rhodenbaugh.
The family is grateful to the staff at UnityPoint Health Trinity Rock Island, Hope Creek Care Center, and Compassus for the kind and compassionate medical and hospice care Judy received.
