Kirk D. Minteer II, of Aledo, IL, known affectionately as Kirkie to his loved ones, passed away on Tuesday, March 19, 2024, at home, after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born on Tuesday, May 6, 2003, in Rock Island, IL. Kirk's vibrant spirit, quirky smile and infectious laughter brought joy to all who knew him throughout his 20 years of life.

Kirk was the cherished son of Kirk and Aimee Prater Minteer of Aledo, and Deanna (Rick Bewley) Minteer of Muscatine, IA. He grew up surrounded by the love and support of his siblings Sean Baker of Chicago, Jason (Taylor) Gross Minteer of Aledo, Gavin (Natalie) Minteer of Aledo, Jessica (Chris) Mason of Texas, Madison (Karsyn) Prater of Aledo, Makenzie (Sam) Retherford Joy, and Mazee Minteer of Aledo. His step-siblings Kayla Bewley, Jacob Bewley, Tamika Bewley, Zach Bewley and Tiffany Gantt, also played a significant role in his life. Kirk was a beloved figure in the lives of his paternal grandparents, Lewis and Wava Minteer, and he held a special place in the hearts of his nieces and nephews—Chloe, Liam, Ethan, Natalie, Millie-ann, Sadie, Becker, Rowen, and Grayson—who will miss his playful nature and warm embrace.

Kirk's life was one of dedication and service, as evidenced by his commitment to the Illinois National Guard. After graduating from Mercer County High School, he joined the military in 2021, where he proudly served his country and community, achieving the rank of E-4 Specialist. His work ethic and determination were as evident in his service as they were in every aspect of his life.

Those who knew Kirk understood his passion for life and his love for his family and friends. He was a beacon of light, always ready with a joke to make others laugh, and his courage in the face of adversity inspired everyone around him. Kirk's interests were a reflection of his outgoing and engaging personality. He was an avid video gamer, a hobby that allowed him to connect with friends and challenge himself in new and exciting worlds. He also enjoyed playing basketball and could be a fierce competitor at the hoop.

Kirk's family-oriented nature was at the core of who he was. He treasured the time spent with loved ones, whether it was a quiet evening at home or a lively family gathering. His presence was a source of comfort and happiness, and his memory will continue to be a guiding light for his family.

In his journey through life, Kirk exemplified the qualities of a loving, funny, and courageous individual. His laughter was contagious, his spirit was indomitable, and his heart was generous. He left an indelible mark on the lives of those he touched, and his legacy will live on through the countless memories he created with those who were fortunate enough to know him.

Kirk was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Thomas Edward Hicks and W.D. Owens.

As we say goodbye to Kirk D. “Kirkie” Minteer II, we celebrate the life of a young man who, in his brief time with us, taught us the power of love, the joy of laughter, and the courage to face each day with hope and determination. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who were touched by his extraordinary spirit. Kirk's journey on earth has ended, but his story will continue to be told by those who loved him, ensuring that his light will never fade.
