Lillian S. Freed, of Aledo, IL passed away peacefully on Sunday, April 7, 2024, in Aledo, IL, at the age of 77. Born on Sunday, March 9, 1947, in Christopher, IL, the daughter of Frederick and Barbara Sanks Draper. She married Donald E. Freed, Sr. on August 8, 1965, in Covington, IN.
Lillian's life was a testament to the power of thoughtfulness and the enduring strength of family bonds. She was affectionately known by those close to her, as a cherished member of her community. She is survived by her devoted sons, Don Freed, Jr. (Catherine) of McKinley, TX, and Benjamin Freed, Sr. of New Castle, IN; her loving daughter, Kimberly (Josh) McKinney of Davenport, IA; her adoring grandchildren, Rebekah Newman, Daniel Freed, Christopher Freed, Dusty Freed, and Benjamin Freed, Jr.; and her step-grandchildren, Angel Moore, Aaron Moore, and Courtney Moore. Lillian's legacy continues through her great-grandchildren, Mari, Cynthia, and Harry Newman, who will carry her spirit forward.
Lillian was a beloved sister to Darryl (Darlene) Draper, Randy (Mary) Draper, Dixie Brownfield, Barbara Adair, Maryellen Draper, Theodora Cross, Lynda Castro, and Sharryl Vorphal. Her life was enriched by the love and companionship of her siblings, with whom she shared countless cherished memories. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Donald E. Freed, Sr., her grandson Dylan, her brothers Claude Reffett and Fred Draper, Jr., and her sister Carla Shiryl Draper.
An alumna of Wabash Valley College, Lillian earned her Associate Degree in Secretarial Sciences, which paved the way for her successful career as a Claims Agent for Atlas Van Lines. Her professionalism and dedication to her work were matched only by her commitment to her family and her love for reading, which provided her with endless joy and a window into other worlds.
Lillian's life was a reflection of her kind, thoughtful, and gentle nature. She approached every situation with a warm heart and a soft touch, leaving a lasting impression on everyone she met. Her ability to listen and her willingness to help others were hallmarks of her character, making her a treasured friend and confidant to many.
The void left by Lillian's passing will be deeply felt by all who had the privilege of knowing her. Her unwavering support, her quiet strength, and her unconditional love were the cornerstones of her family, creating a legacy that will endure through generations.
As we bid farewell to Lillian S. Freed, we celebrate a life well-lived, full of moments that touched the hearts of many. Her memory will continue to inspire and guide us, reminding us of the beauty of a life dedicated to the service of others and the simple joys found in the pages of a good book.
Lillian's life will be honored at a graveside remembrance ceremony, where family and friends will gather to commemorate a remarkable woman whose impact on the world was as profound as it was gentle. Her spirit will live on in the memories we hold dear and in the love that she so freely gave. Rest in peace, dear Lillian, until we meet again.
Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, April 15, at Peniel Cemetery.
