Lowell Davis Bowen, beloved son, brother and trusted friend departed this earth on December 31, 2011.

Born on February 3, 1956, he resided in Columbus Junction during most of his youth and graduated from Columbus Community High School in 1974. After attending the University of Northern Iowa, he enlisted in the United States Navy and successfully completed the rigorous year-long training in achieving designation as an aviation electronics technician. From 1976 - 1984 he was assigned to P-3 anti-submarine aircraft squadrons, and ultimately achieved the rank of first class petty officer. He attended several advanced training programs, served at multiple Navy/Marine Corps air bases within the United States and with air-wing squadrons located in Bermuda, Iceland, Sicily, and Spain. Shortly after leaving the Navy he was employed with AT&T in Haverhill, Massachusetts. He returned to Iowa in 1988 and during the past sixteen years was employed as a maintenance engineer for Hon Industries in Muscatine.

A man of many interests and talents, he had an innate drive to learn about anything and everything. He was the proverbial Mr. Fix-It, and was as adept with a tool as he was with mechanical devices, blue prints and electronic circuitry. He was versatile, knowledgeable, witty and quick with a joke. Generous to a fault, his friends and family could always depend on him during times of need. He enjoyed playing cards and just about any board game that came his way. He never lost his penchant for aircraft, held a pilot’s license, and would frequently take others aloft to enjoy the sights. A lover of all creatures, his corgi, Bryce, was a constant fixture at his side. Beyond his many interests and talents, he held family and close friends as his number one priority. He was quick with a smile and always had a way of putting things into proper perspective. He was one of a kind, and people liked him. His humor, wisdom and dependability will remain an everlasting inspiration for those that knew and cherished him.

Lowell was a spiritual person whose actions were guided by his faith in God and in Christ as his savior. He will be greatly missed by his mother Barbara (Tisor) Bowen, brothers Len and Leland Bowen, sister-in-law, Jill (Hauenstein) Bowen, and his niece and nephew, Briana and Benjamin Bowen. He is preceded in death by his father, Dale Bowen and two infant brothers, Loren and Lyle Dean. An event to celebrate his life will be announced at a date within the near future.
