Michael J. McManus, 89, of New Boston, IL, passed away Friday, September 4, 2026, at Mercer Manor in Aledo, IL.

Michael was born June 2, 1937, in Mannon, IL, the son of LeRoy and Isabella Hancq McManus. He married Betty Jane Reiman on October 10, 1960, in Aledo, IL.

As a young boy, Michael rode his pony, named Hot Tamale, to the Mannon Schoolhouse.

He was a lifelong resident of the New Boston, IL area.

He was a 30-year member of Midwest Operating Engineers, employed by McCleary Excavators out of Blue Grass, IA.

Michael enjoyed the Mississippi River - from his jon boats, houseboats, to air boats, you could always find him out on the water boating.

Michael enjoyed socializing. He could easily make friends from strangers. If he found anyone needing help, he would always lend a hand.

His favorite song was Folsom Prison Blues by Johnny Cash. He also enjoyed Five Feet High and Rising (How High is the Water Momma).

Those left behind to cherish his memory include his sister, Patricia (Leonard) Armstrong of Aledo, IL; nieces, Suzzy Lynn Kuesle (Andy) of Morning Sun, IA, Robin, Laure, Cheryl (Wayne) Matthews of Eustis, FL, Jane, Amy, Sara Lou and Mary Ann; nephews, Michael Shaffer of Oquawka, IL, Mark Bridgewater of Muscatine, IA, Mike Bridgewater of Wapello, IA.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Betty; his brother, Sonny McManus; and his sister, Barbara Shaffer.

To those who knew Michael, he leaves cherished memories.
