Mitchell Lee Tompkins, 47, of Muscatine, died Friday, February 3, 2006, at Unity Hospital. He was born May 12, 1958, at Muscatine, the son of Lester James and Judith A. Yordt Carpenter. He had previously been employed as a chrome plater for HNI, formerly HON Industries, and as an auto body mechanic for Doug Bemis Auto Mall. He enjoyed playing his guitars, fishing and bowling. He was the lead guitarist for the Wild Ride Band. He had served in the U.S. Military. He was a member of the American Legion. He is survived by his mother and adoptive father Judith A. and John W. Tompkins of Muscatine; two daughters Jan Tompkins of California and Taylor Tompkins of Muscatine; two brothers Tyler Tompkins of Muscatine and Mark Tompkins of West Liberty; two sisters Valerie Tompkins of Ft. McCoy, Florida and Laura Kisner of Muscatine; one half-sister Patti and one half step-sister Debbie and a good friend Patti Peterson.
