Ralph O. Nietzel, 86, of Muscatine, died Tuesday, July 25, 2006, at Unity Hospital. He was born December 5, 1919, at Muscatine, the son of Robert and Theresa "Tessie" St. Clair Nietzel. He married Bonnie M. Watters on August 10, 1941, at Kahoka, MO. He was a graduate of Muscatine High School and attended the University of Missouri. He was a United States Navy veteran of WWII having served in the South Pacific. He retired as Vice President of the former Sterneman's Clothing Store on Iowa Ave. in Muscatine. He was a member of the Elks Lodge #304 since he was 21 years old, Quarterback Club, VFW Post #1565, American Legion, N.R.A., and longtime member of the Muscatine Chamber of Commerce. He truly loved his family. He enjoyed golf, tennis, fishing, hunting, baseball and playing Pitch and Bridge. He had played the trumpet in the Muscatine High School and Moose bands and for many veteran's funerals. Survivors include his wife of 65 years; one son, Jon and his wife Beth of Muscatine; one daughter, Jennice McCarty and her husband Jim of Rehoboth Beach, DE; one daughter-in-law, Sandra Nietzel of Muscatine; five grandchildren, Sarah Guldenpfennig and husband Matt of Letts, Joel Nietzel and wife Pam of Anderson, IN, Todd Nietzel and wife Kim of Muscatine, Jessica Nietzel of Chicago and Samuel Nietzel and wife Samantha of Illinois City; five great-grandchildren Caitlyn Guldenpfennig, Courtney Nietzel, Evan Nietzel, Allison Nietzel and Emily Nietzel.
