Richard Ray Skarda, 70, of Aledo died on Saturday, February 16, 2013 at Trinity, Rock Island. Services are 2 p.m. Wednesday at Bewley Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Aledo. Visitation is 4 – 7 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Private family burial will be in the Aledo Cemetery with Military Honors by the Mercer County VFW Post 1571. Memorials may be given to the Richard Skarda memorial fund.
Richard was born August 22, 1942 in San Francisco, California, the son of Robert Ray and Wilma Stallcup Skarda. He married Margaret Smith November 23, 1977 in Aledo.
Richard enlisted in the Army in Butte, Montana on September 22, 1960. He was an Aviation Mechanic in Korea. In September 1962 and 1963 Richard was an aviation mechanic Strat Command at Fort Lewis, Washington. Richard was on alert for the Bay of Pigs under President Kennedy.
Richard owned Skarda’s Computer Service retiring on November 1, 2011.
Richard enjoyed computers, reading science fiction and listening to country music.
Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Margaret; mother, Wilma Riek, Billings, Montana; children, Martin (Doris) Smith, Burnsville, MN, Lou Ann (Rick) Smith-Johnson, Orion, IL, Debra (Mark) Smith-Stewart, Gilbert, AZ, Mary (Jeff) Smith-Rivers, Santan Valley, AZ; brothers, Gary Skarda, Davenport, IA, Jack Riek, Billings, Montana; step-sister, Connie Sullivan, Billings, Montana; 11 grandchildren; one great-grandchild and mother-in-law, Edith Kelley, Meadows, IL.
He was preceded in death by his father, Robert; daughter, Gina Katherine; step-brother, Monte Riek and father-in-law, William Leonard Kelley.
