Sheryl Susan Peterson, a beacon of creativity and love, passed away peacefully on Monday, December 23, 2024, at the age of 69, at MercyOne Genesis in Aledo, IL. She was born on Sunday, February 20, 1955, in LaHarpe, IL, the daughter of Bobby Lyle and Phyllis Jean Green Henry. Sheryl's life was a tapestry of dedication to her family, her work, and her community.
Sheryl's early years in LaHarpe, IL were filled with the warmth of family and the joys of small-town life. She carried these values throughout her life, creating a home filled with love and open arms for all. Sheryl's nurturing spirit was evident in the way she raised her daughters, Whitney Peterson of Aledo, IL, and Virginia Peterson of Bettendorf, IA. She instilled in them the importance of kindness, hard work, and the simple pleasures of life.
Her legacy continued to flourish through her grandchildren, Alexander Peterson of Aledo, IL, Bentley Peterson of Aledo, IL; Samuel Miller of Opheim, IL; Alexandria Kirby of Wilmington, NC, Carl Kirby of Durham, NC, Darian Kirby of Durham, NC, Cody Kirby of Togiak, AK, and Victoria Kirby of Wilmington, NC. She loved spending time with her daughters and grandkids, who were close by and wished she had more time to spend with the other kids in Alaska and North Carolina. We did have a visit from her granddaughter, Alexandria Kirby, in April 2024, that made her whole world brighter. Sheryl was never able to meet her nine great grandchildren but longed to meet them.
Sheryl shared a special bond with her siblings, Kathy (Joe) Cypert of St. Cloud, FL, and Duane (Tonya) Henry of Woodhull, IL, as well as her sister-in-law, Kathy Henry of Woodhull, IL. Her nieces and nephews will remember her for her thoughtfulness and the creative ways she showed her love.
Sheryl's professional life was marked by her tenure at Smithfield Foods Farmland, where she retired as a dedicated production line worker. Her colleagues knew her as someone who loved to stay busy and took pride in her work. Sheryl's work ethic was matched only by her desire to contribute to her community, particularly through her involvement with the Humane Society. Her passion for animals, especially Chihuahuas, was an extension of her caring nature.
Creativity was the essence of Sheryl's being. She found joy in crafting, an activity that allowed her to express her artistic side and share her creations with those she loved. Bird watching was another pastime that brought her peace and a sense of connection with nature.
Sheryl held a great love for her family and a passion for food, especially the "good-bad stuff." Her culinary adventures were a testament to her belief in the joy of indulgence and the power of a shared meal to bring people together.
Those who knew Sheryl will remember her as a loving and thoughtful individual. Her creative spirit, unwavering love, and thoughtful nature will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
Sheryl was preceded in death by her father Bobby, her son John Kirby, and her brother Mike Henry. Their memories remain a cherished part of her story.
As we say goodbye to Sheryl, we celebrate a life beautifully lived and a heart that generously loved. Her spirit will continue to guide and inspire her family and friends, leaving an indelible mark on the hearts of those she touched. Sheryl's journey on earth has ended, but her story—woven with love, creativity, and thoughtfulness—will be told for generations to come.
