Vella Gowdy

Vella L. Gowdy, 101, of Aledo, passed away Friday, January 27, 2012 at Mercer County Hospital. Graveside services are 2 p.m. Monday at Peniel cemetery rural Joy. Memorials may be given to the First Baptist Church, Aledo or the American Heart Association. Bewley Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Aledo, assisted the family with arrangements.
Vella was born August 28, 1910 in Joy, the daughter of Roy W. and Belle Edgar Noble.
She received her education from the Joy schools and graduated from the former Joy High School. She was a registered nurse for 23 years having graduated from the St. Anthony’s School of Nursing in 1932. She worked in various hospitals including Aledo, Colorado Springs, CO and San Angelo, TX. She was then employed as a clerical worker in the Mercer County Courthouse for 21 years, retiring in 1976.
Vella was a member of the First Baptist Church, Aledo, where she served as church treasurer for many years. She was a member of the AARP.
Survivors include her brother, Jerry (Gail) Noble, Aledo; 4 nieces and 1 nephew.
She was preceded in death by her parents; twin sister, Vivian Huston and brother-in-law, Harry Huston.
