Vernon Leroy Wilson

Vernon L. "Mickey" Wilson, Sr., 82 , of Muscatine, passed away Saturday, April 25, 2020 at his home.

Private family graveside services will be held. Burial will be at the Island Cemetery. Nichols Bewley Funeral and Cremation Services is caring for Mickey's arrangements and family.

He was born March 17, 1938, in Mountain View, Missouri, the son of Lisle Leroy and Vera May Eggenberg Wilson. He married Jennie P. Martin on May 9, 1954.

Prior to retirement, he was a machinist for Carver Pump. He had also owned and operated the Derby Gas Station. He was a former 5th Ward City Councilman.

He drove stock cars in the 1960's and was a flea market vendor. He loved spending time with his family.

Those left to honor and cherish his memory include his wife of 65 years 11 ½ Months, Jennie Wilson; children, Beatrice Strong and Vernon (Sheli) Wilson Jr.; grandchildren, Joshua (April) Wilson, Rj (Regina) Strong, Maggie Strong, Sarah (Brett) Helmers, Megan (Josh) Jones, Jill (John) Hesseling, Jaimie (Josh) Howell, Jacob (Konnie) Hurlbut, and Melanie Walde; great-grandchildren; Josephine Strong, Rj (Hailey) Strong, Nevaeh Helmers, Robert and Anthony Jones, Lauren, Annabelle and Johnny Hesseling, Grant, Mitchell and Joel Howell, and Brady Hurlbut; great-great granddaughter; Gracie Rose Strong; siblings; William (Mary) Wilson, Margaret Thompson, Beatrice (Pete) McCleary, Ella Brotherton, and Mary Jane (Don) Carter; sister-in-law: Marlene Wilson; brother and sister-in-Laws, Frank (Claire) Martin and Gene (Betty) Martin; three step-granddaughters; one step-grandson; and nine step-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; mother and father in-law, Harold and Pearl Martin; brother, John Wilson;

brothers-in-Law; Jim Brotherton, Bill Thompson and Harry Martin; and brother and sister-in-law; Mike and Martha Hute.
