Wayne Clifford King, 88, of Aledo, passed away Friday, March 23, 2018, at Unity Point Health Trinity Rock Island.

Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, March 27, 2018, at Bewley Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Aledo, IL. Burial will be at the Hamlet Cemetery.


Visitation for Wayne will be Monday, March26, 2018, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Bewley Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Aledo, IL.

Wayne was born December 10, 1929, in New Boston, IL, the son of Stacey Earl and Velma (Fowler) King.

He married Martha Whitehall on July 25, 1952, in Rock Island County, IL.


He lived his whole life in Mercer County. He worked for the railroad for three years before leaving to join his brothers, Keith and Warren King, in farming, then farming with his nephew, Kenny King, until his retirement in 2005.


He loved farming and spending time with his family. He enjoyed playing Yahtzee with his wife and various card games with his great grandson, Brody.


Wayne is survived by his wife of 65 years; son, Cliff (Debbie) King of Seaton; daughter, Laura (Larry) Diehl of Aledo; granddaughter, Jennifer King of Little York; grandson, Jason (Michelle Fisher) King of Reynolds; seven great grandchildren; brothers, Warren King of Aledo, Aubrey (Martha) King of New Boston; sister Audrey (Jim) Gibberson of New London, IA; brothers-in-law, Don Whitehall of Aledo, Kenny Osborn of Bettendorf, Ralph Brewer of Muscatine, Christopher (Debbie) Whitehall of Wisconsin; sisters-in-law, Jane Whitehall of Muscatine, Ellen Whitehall of Wisconsin and Sooz Jeson of Wisconsin; and many nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews.


He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Chris King; brothers, Kenny King in infancy, Keith King and Alfred King; sisters, Muriel Carey and Maxine Stegall; brother-in-law, Jim Whitehall; sisters-in-law, Wilma King, Lois King, Cindy Brewer and Dora Osborn.
